sorry guys, i have not been on my computer for a while.....the program works, but if you've done anything to your PC (system restore). your file will remain locked. transfer them to disk or flash drive. wipe your PC clean and start fresh, re-install, and it should work "it did for me". you can try the program on a friends PC, insert your files, and unlock, but save those files they are still there, just encrypted

i installed this damned s/w .. when i uninstalled it, i realised my folders that i had protected were now inaccessible. moreover i kept getting error when navigating to the folder - 'Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to restart '

ok.. so this solution is for vista users --

suppose C:\xxx is the locked folder ...
1) open command prompt

type

below line to go to c drive -
>cd c:\

below line to copy contents of xxx to yyy
>xcopy /s xxx yyy
Does yyy specify a file name
or directory name on the target
(F = file, D = directory)? d

below line to delete the faulty xxx folder with all its subfolders (remember to have executed the previous xcopy command 1st, else ur data is lost)
>rmdir /s xxx

now navigate to c:\yyy, and u will have all ur data there.

dont ever select the Lock option which appears on right clickung a folder again!!! the option doesnt go off even after uninstallng the s/w

Found this while searching for someone who makes a screen that you can manipulate like physical objects, for 3D interfaces. Wii might be the first system to have something like that long before PCs do at this rate. :)

There is a group making a kind of malleable surface that uses internal reflection to detect when you press on it. Now if only I could buy a ball of clay that had a built-in display that told the computer exactly what shape it is in. THAT would be insane! The closest I could get right now is to use a bunch of projectors and it wouldn't allow detecting changes in the clay. Very 1920's but it would work, albeit very lamely.

There is also a group that has setup some cameras that watch the user interacting with a sponge that has special tags on it (and the user's finger tips) and the computer tracks all interactions to create a series of commands on screen such as cutting a groove into a surface or twisting it or... Pretty much anything you can invent a 'brush' for.

Forgot to mention.. I did use the workaround Nick advised first and used it to change the folder back to normal so that I could open it but the files inside were encrypted as xdaiio2 found (added it below). Not sure if you need to do this step but if it doesnt work without doing it then try doing this first then do the same as above.

Yep, Found a solution. Download another software from http://www.cleanersoft.com/hidefolder/free_hide_folder.htm

After installing, Add the messed up folder into this software. It should automatically show Hide next to it. Just it unhide on it and walla.

o.k.

not sure if this forum is still live but I have found a way to get your data back.

Its not that pretty though.

I managed to get access to a windows 2000 machine but I guess an XP machine SP1 would be the same.

I installed the software on this machine.

I then transferred my broken Folder onto an external Hard Disc. (or USB key would do if the folder will fit)

I attached this to the Windows 2000 machine.

The folder showed up as a normal folder rather than the control panel icon.

I then used right click on the folder and selected ‘lock’. This then brought up the password prompt. Enter the default password and it then decrypts and opens the folder again showing all the correct files.

Then all you need to do is transfer the files back to your original PC and of course uninstall this software and never let it see the light of day again..
