Assassin’s Creed video performance conspiracy
Published by Sunny on May 9th, 2008 in GamingIt’s not up to the traditional level of a conspiracy you might have heard in the old days of the Art Bell show, but some gamers think shenanigans took place between Ubisoft and Nvidia that will result in poorer video performance for Assassin’s Creed on ATI video card equipped computers.
Less is more in computing. Fewer demands on resources while accomplishing stunning visualsĀ makes for happy gamers. But if the gamers with ATI cards apply a patch to Assassin’s Creed, they will give back some video processing power and diminish the look of the game.
TG Daily said the problem stems from DirectX support. ATI can handle version 10.1, while Nvidia only manages 10.0. ATI does anti-aliasing in a single pass with its Radeon HD 3000 card, courtesy of DirectX 10.1, receiving a nice performance boost in the process.
But Nvidia suffered crashes and problems with Assassin’s Creed. Thus, a patch will be released to degrade Assassin’s Creed so Nvidia users can handle the game.
ATI users cried foul, and accusations of arm-twisting by Nvidia emerged, but no one back up those conspiracy claims. As TG Daily suggested to ATI customers, skip the Nvidia fix patch and enjoy DirectX 10.1 as they have to date.
