Protect Your Folders with a Password - Password Folder
Published by Sunny on April 15th, 2007 in Security, Software, Tips and TricksKeep pesky friends and family out of your folders - use a password to protect your folders so that only you can view your folders. Password Folder is just the utility you need for this job.
Password Folder can help protect folders with a password. The program is integrated with Windows Explorer so you can block access to a folder in a simple right-click! You can then access the folder the typical way, but you will be asked for the password.
Password Folder can protect your folders and files on the windows stetem kernel, it does not load into memory on Windows start and it folders cannot be unlocked even in Safe Mode! It supports encrpyt algoriths such as Blowfish, DES, Gost, RC4 and others.

I can bypass that with any Linux liveCD, or by booting into safe mode.

It works fine when you lock. But unlock doesnt work at all

I installed password folder and locked a folder after right clicking, I was not prompted for a password. Now I cannot open the folder nor can I uninstall password folder - when I am asked for the password. I had not assigned a password.
Whats up? is this a joke? please reply.

ok, i tried this, and when i locked it, it turned my folder icon into a link to the control panel. then, the only way to get rid of the link was to delete it. i wouldn’t use this program if i were you.

Jarundi, Ashok and Stephanie - It works fine for me as well as my buddies. I used Windows XP for this. I’m sorry you didn’t find it to be working.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
@Jarundi:
Unlock ? As in, it doesn’t ask for the password ?
@ashok:
The default password is “admin”. Try it. You need to change it after installation. It tells you to do so if you read :p
@stephanie:
Well, the only way it asks for the password is if you double click the folder to open it. If you try to access it via the explorer window, it’ll take you to the control panel

IT’S shit. This is the worst software for Windows. I believe any “Hello World” program is 10x better. It doesn’t work very well, or at all under XP SP2. The ‘unlocking’ feature never shows. The entire program seems to have been written by a 16 year old, only then will I say “Good Job”, but if a 17 year old or older wrote it, then “it’s shit”. Please don’t add to the pool of shitty software on the Internet. We already have Microsoft contributing a major part.

Would love to see a Private Folder compatible w/ Vista that would just require a right-click “Lock Folder”. But from the replies I don’t believe I will be d/l this one. Folder Lock is pure crap, guess I will just have to wait, hope MS fixes this BS.

Hi guys, My mistake; was too impatient. The default pw worked. Great software. Keep up the good work. Thnx a lot.

I got the same problem as Stephanie. When you unlock, it turns the folder into a link to the control panel. I’m worried that I’ve lost all the files that were in that folder. Help
