Easier way to Remove Ads from Yahoo! Messenger 8
Published by Sunny on January 28th, 2007 in Instant Messengers, Tips and Tricks
Earlier, I had written an article on how to manually remove ads from Yahoo! Messenger 8. This time, I will show you how to remove ads with the help of a small software. This article also shows you how to run multiple instances of Yahoo! Messenger.
This software supports the following versions of Yahoo! Messenger US and UK:
- Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.209
- Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.195
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.716
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.711
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.701
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.683
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.682
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.508
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.506
- Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.505
- Yahoo Messenger 7.5.0.819
- Yahoo Messenger 7.5.0.814
- Yahoo Messenger 7.5.0.811
- Yahoo Messenger 7.5.0.647
- Yahoo Messenger 7.5.0.333
By using the software, you are able to:
- enable or disable multiple instances of Yahoo! Messenger 8.0
- remove the Change Room Banner.
- remove the Chat Ad.
- remove all of the Webcams Ads.
- create a desktop shortcut to Yahoo! Chat
The procedure is straight-forward and needs no explaination. Download the software, install it, and run it. I have personally used the software, and it has no malware. However, if you are very concerned about your security, then I suggest you change the password immediately after using the software, or skip this method and follow the manual method instead. I am not liable for any harm done, this software does not belong to me as well.
To enable multiple instances of Yahoo! Messenger, you can download this registry file. Then, run the file and merge it into the Windows Registry.
Update: 16th March, 2007 - Dermot has made a new software that removes all ads from Messenger. The software, called as Ad Destroy SE, can be downloaded from his site.

8.1.0.239 is the latest version. I haven’t tried the software on that. Maybe we’ll have to wait for an update.
Until then, have you tried the manual method ?

Get Ad remover from http://www.d-e-s-t-r-u-c-t-i-o-n.com works on ALL versions of messenger and allows you to have custom ad text etc..

My Ad Destroy 3.0 is similar to the ad remover above but has the ability to patch 8.1.0.239 and the latest 8.1.0.244 builds of the US Yahoo! messenger.
Get it at http://shadow-corp.net

I quite don’t like to register before downloading stuff. It turns me off.
March 15th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Well a five minute registration is not much to ask for no more ad’s
It’s free and my site has a lot more to offer than just the ad remover like over 600 arcade games, photo gallery…etc
Plus a chance to get updated Versions of the ad remover.
March 16th, 2007 at 3:40 am
It takes like 3 mins to register there wtf dont be so lazy lmao that site also has an arcade… not that you looked :l just spammed yours!
March 16th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
Well, I still haven’t tried it out. Once I do, maybe I’ll be sure that its worth the trouble of a registration.
March 16th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
Well, just registered and downloaded the small utility to patch up Y!M. I am using Y!M 8.1.0.209 and the patch just showed up an error asking me to contact you.
And Dermot, you’ve done a nice job on the site.
March 16th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
I updated the Ad Destroy since to patch the newest 8.1.0.244 Build
I believe the error you got is when you already have the urls.xml as read only
the new update should fix this…let me know sunny.
March 16th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Thanks tom,sunny,
And just to make it clear the patch only patches the US version
I don’t use the UK as it doesn’t have a chat option.
I’m currently also working on Ad Destroy 3.1
It will allow you to save the blank.html for camera ads to stop lag and also allow you to disable filters, emable polygamy and enable Tabbed IM’s in Yahoo Messenger.
Anything else you would like to see in it, let me know here or my site.

March 16th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
I use the US version. I saw the attributes and they weren’t read-only.
But yes, I will try downloading the latest version and let you know.
March 16th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
I just reuploaded it
I noticed the urls directory was stuck at c which is now changed
also added a custom path for it also under c+
its just uploaded, let me know if you have the same issues.
March 16th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Dermot, it worked like a charm!

Just one suggestion though - change the “C+” to “Dir”. That way, its easier to identify
March 16th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Tom, great job. That really ticked me off. Was about to add an update to the post and include your link, but now that you’ve showed your real self, I have no intentions of doing that.
PS - if its anything, I was talking about the registration at Dermot’s site.
Dermot, I’ve updated the post and added your link. Hope to never again see those ads in Messenger!
March 16th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Will do, glad it worked now
March 16th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Should show Directory + now
Thanks for the feedback and helping with the issues sunny.

You can now do the following also..
Enable Polygamy
Enabled Tabbed IM’s (buggy on yahoo’s side)
Disable WordFilter properly (yahoo still didn’t fix)
Toggle nicknames on/off in chat
Also started Ad Destroy .NET for vista users
Will let you know when completed.

how fucking lame…. it really annoys me when people want registration just to download a file… it bugs me even more that the first link leads to a site where the file isn’t hosted!… so I had to jump through the hoops twice… well I got the file and it works, so 10/10 for your good work but minus several million for style
October 5th, 2007 at 12:38 am
Registration and using my ad remover is free
I have a version that works in XP and Vista
And patches up to the build 8.1.0.421
I also have over 1000 flash games on my site and other tools
Have also added the option to block P2P in messenger on latest .NET version
next time you should just follow the link i gave in the first place in future

Is it just me or does clicking that destruction link say it doesn’t like this site and throws you back here when you click it?
July 16th, 2008 at 5:58 am
Ad Destroy 4.0 will kill all yahoo messenger 9.0 advertisements
