Tips to Maximize Revenue From Ads

If you’re just starting off with a website and you are running Adsense, Yahoo! Publisher Network, or any other contextual or non-contextual based advertising on your site, then you should keep these tips in mind:
- Quality is better than Quantity - Never over stuff your website with too many ads. People generally don’t like such websites, no matter how popular they are. Also, having lesser ads would actually result in more revenue, since visitors will eventually trust you and the ads placed on your site. This actually proved to be a very good change I did to TechnoBeta. I removed many advertising spots, and my CTR rocketed!
- Blend It - Try to blend your ads with the content and the color of your site. If you make the ad look out too much like an ad, its unlikely that people will click it.
- Ad Placement - This is a crucial factor that would judge how much revenue you get. By placing ads at places people wouldn’t see much, its unlikely that you would get any clicks (for example - my sidebar, where I placed ads just to fill up the empty space, not a very good idea though!). Hence, the best place is at the header - place a row of Link Units and see your CTR jump!
- Catch the Attention of your Visitor - By attracting the visitor to something he likes, you could get him to click your ad. Try placing a catchy image, or an image that is related with the ads.
- Text vs Image Ads - Some of the best paying ad formats are those which are small and contain text. Image Ads do not work out very well. The pay you get from one image ad is equal to the pay you get from 3 different text ads. This is a tested method, unless - you are having a site that is rich on images within content. You can then blend the image ads with the images in the content. That would result in high CTR.
Finally, monitor your ads. You will need to know the likes and dislikes of visitors so that you can optimize the ads better. You can do this by adding channels to each ad placement.

I’m Banned from Adsense now. That was the only ad-program I trusted.

@Sunny - I’m guilty for that… But they wont accept my registration even though sameer did it wid his name and address(but with my blog). I got nearly 500 post views today through stumbleupon. Wish I had AdSense [:(]

Well, maybe they are already onto you! LOL Or it might be some other thing, can’t say! And btw, Stumblers rarely click on ads - why click an ad when they can just stumble to the next interesting page ?
