UK doctor whips up baby dialysis to save infant
Published by Sunny on August 5th, 2008 in PersonalA couple of years after his DIY brilliance saved a little girl, Dr. Malcolm Coulthard wants his design to become an official one.
It’s why geeks rule, baby. Give a motivated one a seemingly unsolvable problem, and he or she might just beat the odds.
A couple of years ago, Coulthard did just that. Auntie Beeb said the miracle box Coulthard and a nurse, Jean Crozier, created when no existing dialysis machine could save Millie Kelly should be made into an official design and provided for more little patients, citing the doctor:
“This machine is only being used on the tiniest, earliest babies where there is nothing else that can be done.
“But if we had a machine that we could use much more freely, then we would be able to deal with many more babies and have a much greater chance of saving lives.”
Call me sappy, but I think saving the lives of small children is a pretty good idea.
